Missions and Outreach
“Do all the good you can. By all the means you can. In all the ways you can. In all the places you can. At all the times you can. To all the people you can. As long as ever you can.”—John Wesley
Our church reaches out in the love and compassion of Jesus Christ, to those in our community, our county and around the world. Some of the many ways we do that are listed below.
Meals on Wheels
The Worcester Church, working with the town of Worcester, delivers hot, nutritious meals weekly to senior citizens and disabled adults in the town of Worcester. Proper nutrition is essential to good health and recovery from illness. If you know of someone who may be eligible for this service in the town of Worcester, please call the church at 802-223-5911.
Visitation
The Pastor and lay members of the congregation are available for visitation. Please leave a message at the church if you know someone who needs prayer during illness at home or in the hospital or if someone can’t easily get out of the house and would like fellowship or communion.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
Members of the congregation knit or crochet prayer shawls and distribute them locally as well as nationally to anyone in need of prayer who is brought to our attention. This ministry has grown out of the desire to combine the healing power of prayer with the healing power of touch. We enfold each person in genuine loving concern, uplift them in prayer, and envision each shawl as an extension of the loving arms of Christ bringing comfort and peace. Our list of recipients is continually updated and individuals are prayed for at least monthly. Shawls are available in many different colors and patterns to suit anyone’s personal taste. If you or someone you know would like to receive a prayer shawl, please contact the church.
Veterans’ Place
Each year, members of the Worcester church donate new clothing, bedding, health care items and other items, to be distributed as Christmas gifts to the veterans staying at the Veterans’ Place in Northfield.
Samaritan’s Purse
Each November, members of the Worcester church collect shoeboxes filled with toys, school supplies, personal items, and other gifts and take part in a global Christmas gift exchange project called Operation Christmas Child which is sponsored by Samaritan’s Purse. We take time during a worship service to pray for the recipients of these gifts before they are shipped around the world.
United Methodist Church Missions
We contribute financially to the worldwide United Methodist Church mission funds that support many mission projects in the United States and around the world. These include both short term disaster relief and long term mission work and support.
